Screw-in crown:
Ensure that the crown is screwed in (position 0), especially if the watch is worn in water. Water-resistance cannot be guaranteed if the crown is not screwed in.

High Temperatures
Do not wear your watch in a hot shower, sauna or hot tub. The heat can distort the gaskets and compromise the watch's water resistance. Sudden changes of temperature, caused by, say, moving from hot to a cold swimming pool, are especially tough on your watch because they cause it to expand and contract.

Battery Change
Anytime the case back is opened, even if for a simple battery change, the gaskets must be replaced properly so that the water tightness is maintained, and the watch's water resistance tested afterward. That's why you need to take it to a service center or store with trained personnel and the right equipment. (you may be in violation of your watch's warranty if you allow the watch to be opened by a store or repair service not authorized by the manufacturer, so check the warranty before you take it anywhere.)

Leather
Some leather straps are water resistant. Leather bands look better if they are kept dry. But leather straps in general are more easily damaged by exposure to salt water or perspiration, so for frequent exposure, buy metal.
18 kt. 10 micron plated surfaces
Avoid rubbing plated surfaces of the watch against any hard object.

14KT. and 18kt. solid gold watches
Solid gold is softer then stainless steel so avoid rubbing watch against any hard objects. Saltwater is an abrasive, after swimming in saltwater rinse your watch immediately, holding to shower head and turning the bezel(if the watch has a rotating bezel) while you do so. This will prevent salt from accumulating under the bezel and corroding the metal or spring.

Sapphire crystal
A crystal (the cover that protects the watch face) made of synthetic sapphire, a transparent, shatter-resistant,scratch-resistant substance, but could still break if dropped on tile or concrete.

Rough treatment
Avoid violent shocks, falls, and repeated abrasions that can scratch metal or harm the mechanism of the watch. Also avoid chemical products, high temperatures and strong magnetic field to keep your watch in full working order.
